Chicken Wings in Sweet and Sour Sauce on the Skillet
These sweet and sour chicken wings are an Asian-inspired classic you can recreate at home in a single skillet in just 30 minutes — no deep frying or oven required. The wings come out with a beautiful glossy, sticky glaze and juicy meat inside, perfect as an appetizer with beer or as a main course over steamed rice. The sauce builds simple pantry ingredients into restaurant-quality flavor: soy sauce, honey, ketchup or tomato paste, rice or apple cider vinegar, fresh garlic and ginger. Sear the wings over high heat until golden, 5-7 minutes per side, then pour over the sauce and simmer until the glaze thickens and clings, 10-15 minutes. Proportions for 1 kg of wings inside.

Chicken wings in sweet and sour sauce in a skillet is a dish that is simply incredible in taste. Of course, these wings cannot be called healthy food and are not something you would cook for children, but they are perfect for friendly gatherings or "watching football" with beer. Making wings in sweet and sour sauce is very easy, and the key ingredient in this recipe is indeed the sauce. It is important to maintain the balance so that the sauce is not too sour, moderately sweet, with bright but not overpowering notes of spices. The dish itself is not complicated to prepare, and it is convenient that the sauce can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator, and the chicken wings can also be baked ahead of time, and then if necessary, fry the wings in the sauce and enjoy the flavor. By the way, these wings are also very tasty when cold.
Preparation time: 40 minutes.
Ingredients
- chicken wings – 600 g;
- flour – 2 tbsp;
- salt – to taste;
- ketchup (tomato paste) – 2 tbsp;
- soy sauce – 50 ml;
- honey – 1 tbsp;
- American mustard – 1 tbsp (or half);
- dried garlic – 0.5 tsp.

Cooking
1. Rinse the chicken wings and remove any possible feathers. Cut the wings at the joint into 2 parts. Grease a baking sheet with butter or vegetable oil. Mix flour with salt and half of the garlic, dip the wings in the flour, and place them on the baking sheet. Bake the wings in the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes until ready. Cooking time depends on the size of the wings and the power of the oven.

2. In the meantime, prepare the sauce. In a thick-bottomed pot or skillet, mix and heat the ketchup and mustard over medium heat. Ketchup can be replaced with tomato paste.

3. Then add about 200-250 ml of water or broth, stir, and bring to a boil.

4. Add honey, soy sauce, dried garlic, and salt slightly to balance the flavor.

5. Reduce the sauce until thickened so that it has a coating consistency.

6. In the meantime, the wings are baked and browned.

7. Transfer the wings to the prepared sauce, stir so that the wings are evenly coated with the sweet and sour glaze and fry for about 5 minutes.

8. Place the finished chicken wings in sweet and sour sauce from the skillet onto a plate; if desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds. All done! Enjoy your meal!
