Recipes for Main Dishes with Pork

Despite the fact that in some countries and religious denominations the consumption of pork is prohibited, pork is the most consumed type of meat. Various recipes for main dishes with pork exist in the collections of home cooks and restaurant chefs.

After lamb, pork is considered the most easily digestible meat, and pork fat melts more easily and does not solidify as much as beef and lamb. Another advantage of pork compared to beef and lamb is the content of B vitamins.

All parts of the carcass are used for food, including the head and tail, but the best cuts are considered to be pork belly, loin, ham, and neck. It is less common to serve a whole roasted pig as a separate dish.

Main dishes with pork pair well with vegetables, rice, and buckwheat. The meat can be seasoned with any pepper, marjoram, garlic, rosemary, thyme, nutmeg, and chopped herbs. Dressings such as cheese, mustard, and any sweet and sour sauces, horseradish, and honey will add a spicy flavor.

It is very difficult to list everything that can be prepared as a main dish from pork. In this section, we tried to provide various recipes from simple to complex and step-by-step with photos on how to quickly and deliciously prepare pork. It is important to note that for safe consumption, pork should be cooked thoroughly. While different degrees of doneness can be considered for lamb and beef, pork should be cooked to full readiness.

Pork ribs in a multicooker

Pork Ribs in a Multicooker

Write a comment
Pork ribs in a multicooker are juicy, tender and remarkably fragrant braised ribs that won't leave anyone indifferent thanks to their rich meaty flavor and practically melt-in-the-mouth texture. The main advantage of the multicooker is that it lets you cook ribs almost without any effort from the home cook: load the ingredients, choose the setting and the appliance does everything itself, providing even gentle braising. You can serve the finished ribs with any side (potatoes, buckwheat, rice, vegetables) or as a hearty standalone dish with vegetables and herbs. Cut pork ribs into serving pieces, sear in the multicooker bowl on the "Fry" setting with oil until golden. Add coarsely chopped onion, carrot, garlic, tomato paste, salt and spices. Pour over hot water and braise on the "Stew" setting for 1.5-2 hours. Proportions for 1 kg of ribs inside.

Chevapchichi in a pan at home

Cevapcici are the famous skinless meat sausages of the Balkans — Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia all claim this juicy, finger-shaped grilled specialty. They're traditionally cooked over charcoal but you can absolutely make excellent cevapcici at home in a regular skillet. The secret is in the mince: a 50/50 mix of beef and lamb (or pork), passed through the grinder twice, with plenty of fresh garlic, a tiny pinch of baking soda for fluffiness and a splash of ice-cold water or sparkling water, which makes the sausages incredibly juicy. Shape into finger-length logs and pan-sear over high heat until deeply browned. Authentic proportions and serving suggestions inside.

Stuffed zucchini with minced meat baked in the oven

Stuffed Zucchini with Minced Meat Baked in the Oven

Write a comment
Stuffed zucchini with meat baked in the oven is a tasty, wholesome and remarkably beautiful home dish that fits equally well into a weeknight family dinner or entertaining guests. Zucchini is especially nutritious in early summer, during its peak season, when young squash is at its most tender, juicy and vitamin-rich. The main advantage of the stuffed presentation is that each zucchini half becomes its own "boat" with a juicy meat filling and an appetizing cheese-and-sour-cream top, which looks impressive even on the festive table. Cut young zucchini lengthwise in half and gently scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Mix ground meat with sautéed onion and the grated zucchini flesh, add an egg, salt and spices. Fill the "boats" with the mixture, sprinkle with grated cheese and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35-40 minutes. Proportions for 6 halves inside.
