A large amount of onions, stewed in vegetable oil with baking soda, forms a fragrant onion sauce. In this aromatic sauce, we stew pieces of chicken, which become juicy, tender, and soft. In the finished dish, the baking soda is completely unnoticeable, but thanks to the baking soda, the meat turns out incredibly soft and tasty, while the onion softens to a marmalade-like appearance. Jewish-style chicken is a wonderful complement to any side dish.

Ingredients

  • chicken - 600-700 g;
  • onion - 500 g;
  • baking soda - 0.5 tsp (level);
  • salt - 0.5 tsp;
  • refined sunflower oil - 50 ml.

1. Prepare the ingredients according to the list.

2. To prepare Jewish-style chicken in onion sauce, cut the chicken into large pieces. For this dish, it's convenient to take chicken drumsticks, which are already cut at the joint into 2 parts. Sprinkle the pieces of chicken with salt and ground black pepper.

3. For the onion sauce of the Jewish-style chicken, it is better to use large onion heads, as large onions are juicier than small ones. Peel, rinse, and cut the onions into large cubes.

4. Pour vegetable refined oil into the frying pan, heat it, and add the onions. Stir the onions, add baking soda, and stir again.

5. Reduce the heat (to below medium) and cover the frying pan with a lid. Stirring occasionally, simmer the onions for about 7-10 minutes. The stewed onions with baking soda release a lot of juice and acquire a yellow color.

6. Add the pieces of chicken to the onions in the frying pan, then stir. Cover with a lid and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.

7. After the time has passed, stir and flip the pieces of chicken to the other side. Stew the chicken in the onion sauce for another 20 minutes.
