Turkish köfta

This dish looks like regular meatballs, but Turkish köfta has a more vibrant and spicy flavor with a pronounced aroma of Eastern seasonings and spices. This meat dish is made from lamb or beef, diluted with raw potatoes and herbs.

Ingredients

  • beef meat - 400 g;
  • potatoes - 200 g;
  • white onion - 90 g;
  • parsley - bunch;
  • chicken egg - 1 pcs;
  • salt, pepper - to taste;
  • starch - 20 g;
  • coriander - 1 tsp;
  • oregano - 1 tsp.

Preparation

1. Prepare the ingredients for the Turkish köfta. For lovers of spicy food, you can also add a little (a pinch) of cayenne pepper.

2. Clean the beef from membranes and grind it together with the onion using a meat grinder or chopper.

3. Peel the potatoes, then grate them on a coarse grater.

4. Add the grated potatoes to the beef.

5. It’s better to chop the parsley by hand instead of grinding it with the meat. Then you will see the pieces of leaves clearly in the filling, rather than a crushed green paste.

6. In a large bowl, add the egg, chopped herbs, and for better binding of all the ingredients - starch. It will also absorb the released moisture.

7. Season the mixture with salt and spices.

8. Mix the filling, trying to distribute all the ingredients evenly.

9. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Form a small amount of the meat mixture into an elongated ball resembling a lemon. Place the resulting semi-finished products on the prepared sheet with a small distance from each other.

10. Brush the tops with refined oil and, once the oven reaches the desired temperature, place the baking sheet inside.

11. After half an hour, the köfta will be ready.

After baking, the products easily detach from the parchment even when hot. Turkish köfta is transferred to a platter and served at the table with vegetables, herbs, and any side dish. The wonderful aroma of the dish signals its readiness and stimulates a healthy appetite. Enjoy!
