How to cook rice porridge with milk

Rice porridge is a healthy and very tasty alternative to sandwiches. The dish is served at breakfast or at the lunch table. If all cooking recommendations are followed, you will end up with a delicious porridge. And it's not hard to make – it will take a maximum of 40 minutes of your time, and if you try hard, then only half an hour.

Ratio of cereals to liquid

Every person is individual – some like thick rice porridge, while others prefer very thin. To achieve a thin porridge, use 6 cups of liquid (2 cups of water and 4 cups of milk) for 1 cup of rice. Do you love sticky rice porridge? Then cook it with the following proportions – 1 cup of rice, 4 cups of liquid (equal parts of milk and water).

Important addition. The volume of rice and liquid should be measured with the same cups. It is better to use a measuring cup.

Thin rice porridge

This is the kind of porridge served in kindergartens. It remains thin for a long time, even after it cools down. Chilled porridge is easily reheated and served again. Let's move on to the recipe.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • cow's milk (can be skimmed) – 800 ml.;
  • water – 400 ml.;
  • rice – 200 grams.;
  • salt, butter, sugar – to taste.

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the rice for cooking – place a deep sieve with the cereal in a container, cover with water, and stir with a spoon. Drain the liquid. Repeat a couple of times until the water becomes clear.
  2. Fill a pot with a capacity of at least 2 liters with water, add rice and place it on the stove. Keep the pot covered on medium heat until it boils. Reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes.
  3. In a new pot, bring the milk to a boil, mix with salt and sugar. Stir actively with a spoon until the dry ingredients are completely dissolved. While stirring the boiled rice, pour in the hot milk and continue cooking on the stove (make sure to set it to the lowest power). Stir the porridge frequently with a spoon and cook for 20-30 minutes. When the rice becomes soft, remove the pot from the heat, add some butter – mix again. Wrap the pot in a towel and show a little patience – wait for 10 minutes. Serve the porridge at the table.

Thick rice porridge

This dish is served warm or hot. The thing is, cooled porridge thickens quickly, and it is difficult to reheat it in the pot. It will simply stick to the walls of the container.

Ingredients for cooking:

  • clean water – 0.4 liters;
  • cow's milk – 0.4 liters;
  • rice (white) -0.2 kg.;
  • sugar – 1.5 tablespoons;
  • natural butter – a small piece;
  • salt – a pinch.

Preparation:

  1. Before cooking, sort the rice, removing uncleaned grains, plant debris, and pebbles. Rinse the cereal very well several times until the draining water is clear.
  2. In a pot with a thick bottom, fill it with drinking water, add the rice, and place it over medium heat. Stir the liquid in the pot intensively until it boils, so that the grains do not stick to the walls and the bottom. When the water boils, cook the rice for 15 minutes. Remember to stir regularly so that the rice porridge doesn't burn.
  3. Pour hot milk into the rice, add salt, add sugar, and continue cooking the porridge until it thickens. On low heat, the rice porridge takes 20 minutes to cook.
  4. Remove the pot with the porridge from the heat, add a medium piece of butter, cover the pot with a lid, and leave it for 10 minutes. You can invite everyone to the table, as the porridge is completely ready. Enjoy your meal.
