Croutons at home

Delicious natural croutons can be made at home without chemical additives and preservatives. Depending on your preferences, they can be made from wheat or rye bread, a loaf or baguette. In general, from any baked goods you have, regardless of whether they are stale or fresh.

Ingredients

  • loaf – ½ - ¼ pcs;
  • salt – to taste;
  • herb mix of Provence or Italian herbs – 1.5 tsp;
  • olive oil – 1-2 tsp.

Preparation

  1. Cut the loaf into pieces approximately one to two centimeters thick. Then cut it lengthwise into small pieces.

  2. Place the cut pieces of the loaf into a deep bowl, add a little salt, add the herb mix, then drizzle with olive oil and mix thoroughly to ensure the spices and oil are evenly distributed over the future croutons.

  3. Line a baking sheet (or baking dish) with parchment paper, evenly spread the future croutons on it and place in a preheated oven at 150 degrees for about 15 – 20 minutes. During this time, the snacks should dry out and lightly brown.

  4. Once the croutons have dried, remove them from the oven and let cool. After the homemade snacks cool down, they can be eaten. It should be noted that croutons made this way at home can be used not only as a snack but also added to various salads.
