Hawthorn jam without pits

Hawthorn berries are not only tasty but also healing. They retain their beneficial properties even in jam. It's not difficult at all to prepare various sweet treats from hawthorn. Today we will get acquainted with one of them – hawthorn jam without pits.

  • hawthorn berries – 700 g;
  • sugar – 400 g;
  • warm water – 1.5-2 cups;
  • lemon acid - ¼.

Preparation

  1. Before cooking, the berries must be sorted, washed, and dried. Cut off the edges from both sides.

  2. Remove the pits (but you can also cook the jam with pits). Transfer the prepared berries to a pot with a thick bottom, sprinkle with the required amount of sugar, and add water.

  3. Bring the jam to a boil and cook for 15 minutes on low heat. Then set aside with the lid on for a day (24 hours).

  4. After 24 hours, the jam has already acquired an amber hue, and the berries have soaked in syrup.

  5. Put the pot with the jam back on the stove and cook on low heat for another 15 minutes. Then remove the jam from the heat and set aside for another 24 hours.

  6. On the third day, our hawthorn jam has acquired an even richer amber color. Cook the jam for the third time for 15 minutes after boiling. During this time, taste the jam and add lemon acid to taste; we added ¼ tsp.

  7. While the jam is cooking, sterilize the prepared jars and lids.

  8. Fill the jars with boiling jam and tightly screw on the lids. Now the jars should be turned upside down and covered with a towel and blanket. Leave the jars like this until completely cool.

  9. Our hawthorn jam without pits is ready. Store it in the pantry until the cold weather arrives.

    Hawthorn jam can also be prepared in another way. Berries without pits can be mashed to make jam. Combine hawthorn with red currants or rowan berries; sea buckthorn is an excellent combination that will enhance the jam's usefulness.
